Developing Confidence

We all want to feel good about ourselves. Suffering from a lack of self-confidence can adversely affect our daily life, relationships and spiritual development.

On this half-day course we will see how Buddhist wisdom offers us a different way of viewing ourself, relating to the extraordinary potential we all have rather than our limitations. Developing this inner confidence will naturally lead us to improve our good qualities and develop positive, happy states of mind, as well as enabling us to be a positive influence on those around us.

Developing Inner Peace

The real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we will be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions, but if it is disturbed or troubled in any way, we will never be happy, no matter how good our external conditions may be. External conditions can only make us happy if our mind is peaceful. We can understand this through our own experience. For instance, even if we are in the most beautiful surroundings and have everything we need, the moment we get angry any happiness we may have disappears. This is because anger has destroyed our inner peace.

On this Half-day course we will look at simple, practical but profound practices that will help you to develop your own inner peace, through meditation

Mindfulness: Living in the Moment

Often we can find that our mind oscillates between dwelling on the past or being anxious about the future. This mental busyness takes us away from the present, prevents us from enjoying the simple things in life, and makes it very difficult to connect with the peace and happiness that we have the potential to experience in every single moment.

On this half-day meditation course, we will use Buddhist meditation and practical teachings to learn to let go of our busy thoughts and to experience the lightness and joy of mind that comes through the practice of mindfulness and living in the moment. This course is suitable for everyone.

Teacher


Gen Kelsang Pagpa was ordained in 1995 and has been at Vajravarahi Meditation Centre ever since. He teaches drop-in meditation classes and the Teacher Training Program and special day courses as well as leading retreats. He is well known for his warm and compassionate nature and his ability to present Buddha’s teachings in a clear and practical way.

Overcoming Anxiety

Anxiety and stress are increasingly common problems for people in our busy, modern world. Meditation is an effective way to deal with negative states of mind and create a sense of peace and mental freedom. By learning to identify the actual causes of stress and unhappy thoughts, we can begin to understand how to become free from them. Through Buddhist meditation and mindfulness techniques we learn to control our mind, rather than allowing our mind to control us.

On this half day course we will explore special ways of thinking and meditations that heal the mind from the source of these problems. Everybody is welcome.

Teacher

The Teacher: Gen Chonden is an ordained Buddhist Monk and has been studying and teaching under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for over 20 years. He is a very experienced and inspiring teacher and always brings a wealth of personal experience into his teachings.

Kadam Chris Heyes is the Resident Teacher of Nagarjuna Leicester Kadampa Meditation Centre. He is a dedicated student of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and has been studying and practising Kadampa Buddhism for over 25 years.Kadam Chris is married with two children and shows by example how to integrate meditation into a busy family life. His teachings are always practical and easy to apply to everyday life. Through his gentle and joyful approach and his peaceful example, he has helped many people find true happiness in their hearts. Kadam Chris is also a renowned Kadampa Buddhist artist.
