The Centre
Nagarjuna Kadampa Buddhist Centre (Leicester) is a new and exciting development, serving as a unique place of peace and refuge for everyone in the heart of the city centre.
Our new building is the site of the city centre branch of Nagarjuna Kadampa Buddhist Centre (Kelmarsh), which is nestled in the peaceful Northamptonshire country side. Due to the growing demand for Buddhism and meditation in Leicestershire, we purchased a beautiful 13,000 sqft building in the quiet conservation area of Guildhall lane in June 2009.
We have now launched a 3 year development project with the vision to create a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city for all the people of Leicester and beyond.
To date, we have recently (Feb 2010) completed the building of ten beautiful en suite bedrooms, with views over the cathedral, which are available to rent for those wishing to enjoy the benefits of living in the peaceful environment of a Buddhist meditation centre. We are currently completing works on our new large meditation room (to hold up to 100 people) for the study and practise of Buddhism and meditation. We also plan to build another meditation hall holding up to 500 people within the next three years.
Our next phase of works is to establish a "World Peace Cafe" open to everyone, a "Meditation shop" and a visitors centre for school and group visits. Work is well under way in realising our vision.
As of today the centre runs various classes, courses and retreats as well as daily chanted meditation sessions open to everyone, Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.
